Silly IC pin question

Silly IC pin question

2001-10-17 by Aardvark-mi

Ok, here's an IC question from a never touched an IC before MOTM non-EE type!
If pin 1 on an IC is the one with the dot than what are the other pins?
Do they go
1-3-5-7 on one side and
2-4-6-8 on the other
or
1-2-3-4
5-6-7-8
or
1-2-3-4
8-7-6-5
or
Is it a secret that you could tell me but you'd have to kill me!!!

None of the above.

Picture your 8-pin IC with the notch or dot facing left, viewed from
the top. Pinout would be:

8 7 6 5
) |
1 2 3 4

They count counter-clockwise, from pin 1. In 99.999%, pin 1 is the top, left corner.
The exception in the PLCC package, where pin 1 in the in middle of the top row (the package is a square).
The thing to remember is to count counter-clockwise.
So, for a 8-pin part, pin 1 is "across" from pin 8.

Thank you Paul and Moe!
I'm off work today and decided this would be my day to do MOTM and MOTM related stuff! (Wife's at work, kids are in school and I have the house to myself)
Just did the jumper from U6 pin 1 - pin 5 on my Miniwave, Thank you for your help!
I did the resister change in my 420!
Finishes soldering the boards for my LH822 and LH831 (going to fire up the drill press and do the front panels next)
Fininshed my multiple (simple 1 in 3 out's no fancy cascade's!!!)
And to top it off I finished my 2nd cabinet!!!
Looks like I'm all caught up just in time for the pedal interface!!!
Tx Al
