Surge Issues
2001-12-08 by sucrosemusic
Well now, this is getting personal. I just yanked TWO surge protectors... one being an outlet variety one, and the "You're protected" light was off. Hmm. The next one is a power strip that seems to be vaguely surge protectorish, as it has a "Clamping Voltage" listed on the back. Inside it's a switch, a breaker, a somewhat larege blue (ceramic i guess, not a tin-can electrolyitic one) capaictor, and a circuit breaker. Now... the real question is this... Is my *extremely* ghetto Gemini PL-9 "Pwer Supply and Light Module" on top of my rack a surge protector. This is about as ghetto as they come... all I recall for parts inside were the inline fuse, the lighted switch, and a single capacitor... plus the goo for the nifty pull-out lights. I can send a shot of the guts of one of the strips I pulled... but I suspect this gemini unit is not a surge protector... dunno. Paul, if this came from someone else I would have worried in the morning, but MAN! -Geoff (checking to see if the noise floor in his setup has lowered...)
