probably a bad idea

probably a bad idea

2002-01-30 by sikorsky

hello all,
session cancelled, awaiting iron re-heat to fix yet another crass mistake on
my OMS820, trying to work out if that state of the union address did declare
'war' on north korea...
anyway, i had an idea - it's been mulling around my head for a while, that
what we could really do with is a good MOTM abusers manual - the gist of it
is this, something like a 20 page manual of interesting patches in PDF
format submitted by us the customers, then after a while, a volume 2, 3 etc.
I don't mean it to be exclusively MOTM, but MOTM format to include Oakley,
Blacet, Encore...
anyway, it's just an idea - no money in it, little kudos, but I don't mind
putting it together
any thoughts / groans / dagger glances anyone..?
by the way - no timescales promised as yet

cheers

Not a bad idea at all! Robert Rich published a patch sheet for one
of his demos on the Synth Tech News page that I found hugely useful
and a fountain of further ideas. I suggest we publish patches in
this format as GIFs or JPGs. We could collect them in the Files
section or add a database table (for searching!).

hello all,

the idea that i had was that it would come in a bundle instead of piecemeal
i have a test patch in PDF that i did last year - i think the data
compression needs looking at (the file seems way too big)
www.pasc.co.uk/images/testpatch.pdf

probably the first 'volume' would follow on from where the motm manual left
off, and look at basic things like feedback patches, bizarre sync-ing some
basic emulations and FX

i think individual patches detract from the original 'manual' idea,
something that can be easily downloaded and printed off at leisure - and
ultimately i suppose act as a sales tool to those companies with modules
included..?

keep the ideas coming though chaps - i'm going to try and put a mini guide
together this weekend for thoughts, comments and input... ...even though
it's going to cut into valuable bleep time

cheers

Well...OK. Are you going to collect the patches and put this
together or should we use the database as the collection point?

hello all,
erm - i'd not really thought about that yet, i was just going to cobble
something together (yes i write down all the interesting patches that get
posted into my little black book) and put it out for comment
if people has patch charts they want to send - feel free to email them to
the following address
axis@...
it's at work on a leased line, so it won't hurt a bit...

meanwhile i just got around to giving my MOTM/OMS820 combo a test drive -
wow - instant voltage controlled envelopes, i had the gate triggering the
UEG which controlled the down CV on the 820, lovely
congrats to Paul & Tony for their erm, disjoined effort...

cheers
paul b
