Vintec Audio: Random Thoughts

Kevin Boudreau's next module? (Kevin: Get an LFO!)

ENIAC marries Mackie and this is the progeny.

I wonder how many G.E. brand tubes they think still exist?

Bet I could start WW III if I spilled a nice, syrupy 32 oz. cherry Coke onto
the faders.

Are the filaments "series-wired"?

Actually its only 4-channel. The other inputs are the "hot standbys"
(emphasis on "hot").

Less active components than an eighty-seven cent PIC processor. Cool.

Is the power-on indicator a "superior technology" neon bulb?

Now I know where Larry shipped "Frankenswitch" - it's just out of view in the
picture.

A new hollow-state mixer for 2002. Who'd a thunk it.

This is really the "Envelope Nest", right?

New percussion instrument - just smack the side and the microphonics ring for
47 minutes

So where DOES the 8-track player plug in?

This technology is essential to preserve the sonic nuances of a $13 fuzz box
from Guitar Center.

Cheers!

While I agree that this console is over the top, let's not forget that
well designed audio tube electronics can perform at least as well as
their discrete and integrated conterparts, and are often much more
"musical", as witnessed by any of the recordings from Waterlily
Acoustics:

http://www.waterlilyacoustics.com/

(Jon Hassell's "Fascinoma" is one of my personal favorites).

WA use gear designed by Tim deParavacini of EAR,

http://www.earpro.com/

in particular:

http://www.earpro.com/atr.html/

As with any electronic component, tubes are only as good as the
circuit design.
