Soldering ICs and small parts, 600F ~= 315C
Soldering larger parts, wires to jacks, etc., 700F ~= 370C
SMD solder, hot blowgun set to 960F ~= 515C
DE-soldering, I set the vacuum tool to 752F = 400C for most stuff.
General rule, if the flux is boiling, the tip is too hot.

I've been using 330C which has worked. Old Crow wrote directly that
he uses about 315C for ICs and small parts and 370C for large parts.
I guess I'll up my temp some for larger parts.
Larry made mention that I might be using the wrong temp because I had
so many errors (mostly cold solder joints) in my 822. Hence the
question.

What kind of solder were you using? Some alloys may not melt easily with a
600 degree tip.
I've yet to damage a *decent* PC board or a component with a 700 degree tip.
