MOTM-190 is alive! & update

MOTM-190 is alive! & update

2002-07-25 by Paul Schreiber

Received pc boards yesterday for the MOTM-190 uVCA/RM prototype. A few minor boo-boos and
resistor tweaks, but all in all it's working.

AP plots comparing the MOTM-190 to the VINTAGE MOTM-110 are at:

www.synthtech.com/misc

You can see that the THD of the '190 is 10 *times* lower, and the noise floor is slightly higher.
This is based on the CA3280 versus the CEM3330. But the 10X THD improvement, and a *much nicer*
RM without vintage ICs is a good thing.

I need to investigate the RM mode a bit more, and mess with the carrier nulling resistors. The
pcb needs a minor tweak, but I suspect that it will be ready to ship at the end of August. I need
now to make the front panels (fixing the lettering to be OVER the jacks).

I decided that since 99% of people that ordered a '490 also ordered a '390, to ship both at once.
My niece Angie has returned from her mission trip to Africa (complete with parasites) and is
madly kitting up 60ea of both kits. As of today she is 50% done. I expect her to finish next
week. This will save much in time and postage hassles.

I have not been able to ship much over the last week due to my wife's illness (kidney virus) and
"real" work. I do plan to start on some kits and (mostly) assembled modules tomorrow. I have
received 30 soldered '300 pc boards, nice and functional. THAT will help speed things along :)

Acrobat Reader doesn't want to load this file. Anyone else have this
problem? The older ap_test.pdf file works fine.

Thanks. Changing its filename extension to .DOC enabled me to open it in
Word.
