TGS Aelotatoric(sp) random composition game..

2002-08-20 by revtor2000

Hey list, I dunno if many of you follow the threads at TheGasStation,
but in the modular pump there is a contest up for modular users of
different systems. It started as a "My east coast system can do as
good a West Coast track as your West coast system", and has evolved
into a game where any system is welcome.. So far no MOTM'ers have
entered into the fray and it seems that they want us in there!!! The
game is to compose a track using just a single system (IE only MOTM
modules), using evolving patches, up to eight tracks mixed down into
one composition of up to 7 minutes long. No double tracking of
sounds, and no outboard effects may be used other than reverb, echo
and equalization. The compositions would be due on September 8.
They would be judged by the citizens of Sonicstate on sonic variety,
interest, and style. If you have any questions, got ot Sonicstate
and ask at that thread... these are just the guidelines that I
remember. I would love to jump in on this if I had the
modules!! Id submit some old stuff of mine, but they said the track
has to be generated for this comp only..

any takers? Lets mop the floor with these whiners!!!

Considering who the most active members on the gas station are, IMHO
it would be suicide to enter MOTM in such a contest. Anyone who
needs "proof" like this is already bigoted anyway. Let's be more
specific here, there are two Gas Station members, Peake and some
anonymous weasel, who spend enormous amounts of time bashing MOTM,
plus several more who add in jibes at the slightest opportunity. You
can be sure that they will swamp the list with their ill informed,
loud mouthed, grudge based opinions. Why bother?

FYI I was creating avant garde music ala Subotnick or Dockstader 20
years ago on a prepatched Octave Cat SRM. While systems such as
Buchla or Serge may encourage non-linear thinking and music, saying
that Moog or MOTM aren't similarly capable is mistaking the design of
the instrument with the talent of the musician.

I agree. Last time I checked TGS they were already asking "where the stooges
are". I've been tempted to post "well, building synths and making real
music",
but then I decided I'd better not. (No offense intended to anybody who
participates, with MOTM or with any other synth, of course.)

But just look who started the thread, and you know what's going to happen

hey chaps

please, lets keep this off list eh..?
motmlist gives me a warm feeling inside, whereas TGS doesn't
there's no reason i can think of to cross breed these two lists

i posted to quite early to the aletoric (?) thread but my post never
appeared, since then i just couldn't be bothered, and time is a bit of a
factor - then of course there's all the joke entries i could make (not even
worth it...)

cheers

I don't think there's a problem anouncing a possible
contest no matter where it originates. Some of us might
want to know. However not very much time is given, and
all kinds of limitations are put on it (8 tracks only?
Jeez). And I still can't figure out what it's supposed
to be partly because neither me nor my dictionary knows
what aelotatoric means.

However, being biased that it will probably be, just lie
about the synth used and see if they can tell. That
could be an interesting test in itself.

Spelled as "aleotoric," it has something to do with beer brewed with yeast
that ferments in warmer temperature ranges. At least... that's how *I* do
aleotoric composition...
