howdy

2003-05-30 by Michael St

Greetings,

I recently purchased a small MOTM system and am currently waiting
anxiously for it to arrive some time next week. Out of curiosity, are
there any members here in the San Francisco bay area?

Hi

Yes, I am one of them. I live in the Mission district in SF. I know there
are supposedly quite a few others, and I understand that the bay area has a
fairly high concentration of MOTM users

I currently live in Oakland, myself. I know there were a couple more in Oakland/Berkeley, but I haven't seen them active on the list in a while. And there is/was a group in the south bay.

That's pretty close to my hood, I live in Bernal Heights above the
mission.

What kinds of systems do people have? I'm starting out with a simple 8
module system, but I intend to outgrow that quickly. I'm also
interested in patches people have put together. Is there a forum or
website that collects these?

My own system has been somewhat dormant recently. It's most recent use was as a monsterious fm-radio processor and distorted feedback loop-- which culminated in blowing out a PA speaker.

Various patches have been posted to the email list (so you can check the YahooGroups archives), but it might be
difficult finding them.

Kyma + MOTM

How many MOTM users out there also own or use a Kyma system? I think this is a
great pairing (which has been briefly mentioned here before)?

Ah! The perfect use for MOTM systems! MOTM is used to similar effect to shake
the hell out of Disney Sea's volcano (Tokyo).

I started out with a MOTM power supply and a 420 filter, both kits. Eventually it grew to fill most of a 20U tall rack. Not all of it is MOTM though, I have some Blacet, Oakley, Synthesizers.com, and a Cyndustries module mixed in there. All the MOTM, Blacet, and Oakley were built as kits, and have Stooge panels. I'm now planning on moving the system into a Stooge Industries Walnut cabinet(s) for better ergonomics, looks, and expandibility. As far as patches, I don't really write them down. I used to, but I found it more time consuming than actually patching up the sound. Whatsort of music are planning on making with your new system? Or, what kind of music are you already making that you are going to compliment with your new system?

There is a Yahoo group about modular synthesizer folks in the Bay
Area. It was started by Fred Becker who now lives in Indiana (Hi
Fred), and it is called modularities. It has been very quiet
lately. Here it is:

I have the basic Kyma/Capy 320 system (no additional DSP yet). It
does use a similar part of my brain...!

Re: Kyma + MOTM

A Kyma would complete my evil plan of world domination. The ugly
triumvirate of MOTM + Kyma + Ztar would indeed inspire shock and
awe. I have two out of three so far, but expect to get a Kyma by
early fall.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha (evil world-dominator laugh)
