Acoustics Update [Was: Testing your Studio]

Acoustics Update [Was: Testing your Studio]

2003-11-18 by alt-mode

I spent part of my weekend installing 8 MiniTraps from www.Realtraps.com in
my 22'x21' studio room and I must say that they make quite a
difference! The difference was not very apparent to me as I was putting
them up partially because they don't go after the high frequencies like
foam does but once I got them up and started running some tones through the
room and playing some bass-heavy music, it was very obvious that the low
end had tightened up considerably and that it was much more consistent
around the room. The frequency test I did before improved with the peaks
and valleys becoming smaller.

My wife even commented that "it sounds more like a studio" after the traps
were installed.

Mounting the traps was relatively easy, they install with picture
wire. Ethan, one of the owners, was very responsive to all my questions
and suggestions.

It is perhaps more important to "treat your room" before you go and spend
money on better speakers, amps, etc.

Thanks for the review!

Yeah, good speakers in a bad room will sound worse than bad speakers in
a good room.
