Paul, Can you tell us if the output of the triple bandpass filter being designed is stereo, and if the LFOs can pan across the stereo field as on the MAM? Dave Bradley Principal Software Engineer Engineering Animation, Inc. daveb@...

It's a mono filter, sort of like 1/2 a MAM filter. but it's 1/4th the price, too! You'll have to buy 2 for stereo! <grin> Paul S. -----Original Message----- From: Dave Bradley <daveb@...> To: MOTM List <motm@onelist.com> Date: Thursday, March 11, 1999 11:02 AM

Can we get separate output jacks for each filter so that we can pan them externally? Dave Bradley Principal Software Engineer Engineering Animation, Inc. daveb@...

Cool! Are you going for 2U or 3U on this design? Dave Bradley Principal Software Engineer Engineering Animation, Inc. daveb@...

Sure, if I can fit it all in there. On another similar note: if you have such a request, just us MS Paint or something to atrtach a sketch on a proposed panel layout. If it fits, it will show up. I prefer 2U because 10U wide go across the 19" rack (5 modules, no gaps). 3U also adds $20 to the final kit cost. Paul S. -----Original Message----- From: Dave Bradley <daveb@...> To: motm@onelist.com <motm@onelist.com> Date: Thursday, March 11, 1999 1:23 PM

OK, instead of writing a white paper this afternoon like I should have, I twiddled pixels instead. Attached is a faux triple resonant filter pic in Windows bitmap format. Sorry I didn't have the capability of saving it as a jpeg for non-Windoze users out there. Ignore the fact that the module still says "Ultra VCO" at the bottom! It works basically like the MAM, without the envelope follower or built in panning. Each filter has its own output however, for your external panning pleasure. Contains 2 LFOs, LFO2 being fixed at a somewhat faster frequency than LFO1 like the MAM. The Manual/CV pot tunes all filters simultaneously, unless an external input is plugged into the CV input, then the pot acts as a CV attenuator (also ala the MAM). There is an LFO freq CV jack not present on the MAM design. The LFO mode switch also works like the MAM: Single applies LFO1 to all filters with positive polarity; Dual applies LFO1 to filters 1 and 3 with positive polarity, and LFO2 to filter 2; Dual Reverse applies LFO1 to filter 1 with positive polarity, LFO1 to filter 3 with negative polarity, and LFO2 to filter 2. Possible enhancements: Add a jack for LFO amount CV, whereupon the LFO amount pot becomes, you guessed it, an attenuator for the external amount CV. OR, add a jack for LFO1 output, so that you could use it to synchronize panning to the filter frequency modulation (my preference). Thanks to Dave for a pixel-pushing extravaganza! Comments are as follows: In the real unit, the pots need to ne mirror'ed. In other words, the panel pot layout will be: RATE RES DEPTH BP1 MODE SW BP2 CV MOD BP3 The reason is as follows: when you look at the panel from the front, the right-most column are the components on the pcb. The Q and cutoff pots *must* be on the pcb for stability (very short traces over a ground plane) Also: it seperates "LFO STUFF" from "FILTER STUFF". OTHER than that quibble, I think Dave has a winner. COMMENTS??!? Paul S.

Paul, Dave, others... tell me why I want this and why it is different / better / whatever compared to other filters Paul is planning. Be gentle. Remember, this is my first time. Larry :)

Attached is the revised triple bp image with Paul's changes. I added a LFO output jack so that external panning could be synchronized to the filter sweeps. I've been thinking of creating an image of a giant MOTM modular in a Moog 55 style cabinet by cutting and pasting a bunch of module images, and faking up some modules that haven't been created yet. I'm one sick puppy. Dave Bradley Principal Software Engineer Engineering Animation, Inc. daveb@...

Hi Dave, MOTM, The filter looks GREAT (excellent job). While you're doing your MOTM 55, maybe you can do a mock up of the mixer; almost the same layout as your filter. Synth Peon JB

I think I'll quit while I'm ahead, and actually BUILD the MOTM 55 instead of faking it. Dave Bradley Principal Software Engineer Engineering Animation, Inc. daveb@...
