sequencer

2004-11-21 by Jeremy

Hi all,
I'm looking to buy an analog step sequencer, and was after
some advice/suggestions??
I've thought about the .com sequencer but it has too few features
(no gates out, no skip step).
The Milton sequencer looks amazing, just starting to save up for
one(probably take a while). I've thought about the Future Retro
"Mobius" for melodic lines, as it has a quantizer and midi sync,
and would work with my Korg MS10, but it's not totally modular.
Also, I'm wondering if there's some kind of rhythm sequencer
out there that lets you trigger various things in various patters?
Kinda like the X and Y outs on the Milton sequ?? Does all that
make sense?
Any info would be great.

cheers - Jeremy.

P.S. any MOTMers in Melbourne, Australia. It'd be great to see
another system!!

Do you have a MIDI-CV converter of some type? Milton has no MIDI -
it's CV (only), so you won't need (and can't use) a converter. If you
do have a converter, or are willing to get one, take a look at the P3
Sequencer - http://www.p3sequencer.com

I recently ordered two sets of Milton boards. It's got great
features, but one thing it doesn't have is independent bank operation.
(One of the reasons I ordered two...)

It's still in development -- and it'll be pricey when it starts shipping
-- but the Zeit looks really interesting:

It's full-featured, MIDI+CV.

Mmmmm....analog sequencers...
The Arp sequencer is still by far my favorite, it really nailed that
gate buss feature you described. It is so immediate and hands-on, yet
very flexible. It also has 2 voltage quantizers built in that can be
used for external duties. Although it is limited in steps, it
definitely has a lot of features that make up for this.
As far as modern sequencers go, the Analogue Solutions Oberkorn looks
to be interesting as it has 5 gate busses. It has analog addressing,
too, so you use voltage to jump to any step. I've never used one, but
it looks mighty nice.
The Mobius is cool... I like it because it has simultaneous V and Hz
outputs. It has that Roland 303 style programming which isn't as
immediate as grabbing a knob, but once you get your notes programmed in
it is pretty hands on for muting and un-muting steps, transposing, etc.
There is always the Serge TKB... like all the Serge stuff, quite
expensive but very nice.
I think the Signal Arts sequencer looks interesting:

The Mk.2 version is about to ship... this adds a CV input. I just
ordered one and should have it in a week or 2, I can't comment on it
yet but it I have pretty high hopes. The bonus is that it doubles as a
3 channel midi-->CV converter while playing sequences through the midi
out.
Good luck.
