I've put MOTM style knobs onto D-type pot shafts. I didn't get any
kind of special knob for D-shafts, I used the standard knob. The set
screw just goes onto the flat part of the shaft. More significant is
whether or not the pot is attached to a PCB or is mounted to the
front panel. Best if it's mounted to the front panel, otherwise you
can have a knob whose minimum position is 4 o'clock and whose maximum
position is 2 o'clock.

Thanks for the tip. I'll see if the standard MOTM knob fits on an
Octave CAT and lines up properly.. that would be nice. These
particular knobs are the same style wise, but don't have a set
screw. Instead they have a little metal insert inside them that
keeps it to a d-shaft. Some of these pieces are corroded and the
knobs don't really stay on well, not too mention they are all
scratched up.. thats why I'm looking for replacements.

Actually, I retrofitted my Octave Cat with standard MOTM knobs
because of the same problem (not to mention a few missing...) They
work perfectly. Digi-Key also sells the colored slider caps that are
identical to the old ones Octave used... even in the same colors.
That, and some new Pratt-Read keyboard grommets, and the synth will
be practically (cosmetically, at least) like new.
