Father's Day

Father's Day

2005-06-17 by Greg Amann

My wife rolled over in bad this morning and said: "Don't have time to
go shopping for a Father's Day gift, just go buy $75 worth of
synthesizer." Suits me fine!

And who says romance is dead...

So what's the plan for the "Father's Day gift"?

First rule - you can put in a little of your own money, too...

I'd like to see an Encore Frequency Shifter wrapped up for Sunday, but
I don't think it's going to happen. An iPod would be great, also,
especially if it was filled up with synth classics!

$75? That'll get you a CZ-1000 if you're lucky! Can one even get $75 worth
of modular gear?

$75 buys you 2 pair MOTM rack rails, maybe :-)

or something from Doepfer, probably

Don't forget this is $75 CDN. It, in itself, buys 10 x 1K 5% resistors and 1/3 cup coffee (cold). Several holidays are required before an actual purchase can be made. :-(

Re: [motm] Re: Father's Day - $75 becomes $375....

I just ordered:
1 of: MOTM-101 Noise/S&H (kit) x $189 = $189
1 of: MOTM-390 MicroLFO (kit) x $129 = $129
1 of: MOTM-440 VC Lowpass Filter (kit) x $259 = $259
1 of: MOTM-700 Dual VC Router (kit) x $169 = $169
1 of: MOTM-820 VC Lag Processor (kit) x $189 = $189

I'd say the $75 is spoken for.

Just got the first sounds out of the new MOTM synth which, in terribly silly modular fashion, I have named "The Nostromo" (The Nostromo may be a distant relative of Darmok and I am sure that The Nostromo would refuse to talk to FrankenSynth at dinner parties).

Ever been all excited aboot your new synth only to have family members rain on your parade? The concept of "tuning" a VCO eludes them (the concept of a "multi-turn pot, well forget aboot it), while they are quite happy to tune their guitars and pianos as required. Silly gooses.

Try to imagine the first patches I have made with just a 300, a 101 and an 800. Oh, and a MIDI keyboard plugged into a Kenton ProSolo Mark II. Some wicked frequency sweeps, man. And confused looks from family members when the keyboard doesn't change the pitch quite the way they anticipated. :-)
