overdriving the 490

overdriving the 490

2005-08-22 by Jason Proctor

the 490's a pretty nice filter - nice and liquidy in the upper
resonance ranges.

but... in my experience it overdrives *super* easily, and pretty much
stops behaving like a filter - the resonance control does very little
and tweaking the filter knob gets kinda flanging effects.

i have to attenuate the output of my Oakley VCO a *lot* to get
regular filtering behaviour out of my (borrowed) 490. if any filter
needed input level knobs, and of course this doesn't have one :-)

is this normal behaviour? thanks....

a) make sure the audio input jacks *do not* have a wire from the top lug to
ground (early instructions had this, later ones did not)

b) try changing R29 to 56K or 62K
