EG's, VCO's & Mystery Modules

EG's, VCO's & Mystery Modules

1999-11-24 by Dave Trenkel

Spent a late night last night setting up a complex sequenced patch (god I
wish I could get paid for doing this kinda stuff!). Noticed a couple of
things:

I realized you can get 2 postive ADSR's out of the 800 without a mult by
sending the negative output to the 420 FM1 input, set to a negative value.
I guess this is obvious, but I felt pretty good figuring it out! Yeah, I do
need more EG's...

Also, I noticed that the 300 tuning jumps by about a minor 3rd when
switching the FM1 switch from AC to DC, with no input at FM1. I assume that
this is supposed to happen, both of my 300's do it, but just thought it
kind of curious.

So, I'm guessing the mystery 1U effects module is the phaser Paul mentioned
a while ago. If so, $249 sound pretty reasonable, esp. compared to the
moogerfooger. Am I right?

"...there will come a day when you won't have to use
gasoline. You'd simply take a cassette and put it in
your car, let it run. You'd have to have the proper
type of music. Like you take two sticks, put 'em
together, make fire. You take some notes and rub 'em
together - dum, dum, dum, dum - fire, cosmic fire."

Yep, I made the same observation when I fired my 300 up before I finished
reading all the "use of the MPTM-300 VCO" section of the manual. After
all, I was still reading and calibrating.

I caught a deep "sigh...." from Paul since he made a point to write about
this pitch shift on page 30 of the manual (in that "Use of the MOTM-300
VCO section I had yet to read). I think should be some great tuning tips
in the archives as it was a hot topic when the 300 first came out.

Ooh, that would be cool. I have drooled over that Mooger Fooger phaser and
have been just waiting and hoping that the MOTM phaser would be
soon-to-the-world.
