End-of-year thanks

End-of-year thanks

2005-12-15 by Paul Schreiber

2005 was a difficult year, with Larry's death and also that of another long-time
personal friend in the spring. But as I sit here typing I can't help but feel
grateful that I have be allowed to do MOTM 1 more year. With the onslaught of
plug-ins [sorry Adam :) ] and MP3 crap-ola audio played through 14 cent earbuds,
it's a wonder that there is still interest in big honkin' expensive "good-plated
toothpicks" (nod to Konkoro).

There will be 1 more burst of kit shipments next week, limited to stock on hand.
I'm not buying anymore "stuff" because then I have to pay taxes on it
(end-of-year inventory). Post office lines are 45min long now :(

I will collect all the emails and try to get it all reconciled over the weekend.
Do not hesitate to send me a nasty-gram.

As far as assembled modules go: I will continue to work past tomorrow. I am
building 35 pc boards up right now: that's a LOT of time. I am also designing 8
new pc boards for the Frac Rack modules and then those faceplates AND THEN
building up a few MOTM-650s to *pay* for all this effort.

For the numbers: in 2004 I shipped 838 modules and 2005 will be right around
940. This is *entirely* due to the efforts of Paul Haneberg, all I do is get in
the way :) Looking to 2006: I expect this total to drop to around 600 because
most folks are 'done' with the current line-up and are waiting for new stuff.
But I *hope* the $$$ amount will be the same due to Frac sales (although
per-module they are less than MOTM).

Yes, there will be new stuff in 2006. Most of 2005 was just playing catch-up.
But once I am caught up, my competition better run and hide because we may be
outshipped and outgunned but MOTM will not be out-designed!

This is just way too gracious. So let me add a few things.

We keep a large stock of parts, and a lot of these parts are very expensive.
We order most of the parts, but Paul S. pays for almost all of them. When
we get low, sometimes we really bug him, but he keeps the stock up so that
all of you can get your modules quick.

Paul S. and his other designers, most notably Juergen and The Old Crow
deserve credit for the best designs in the business. There are a lot of
really great ideas still to come out there. Hang onto your ears!

Paul S. and certainly a few of you deserve credit for not getting too mad at
our kitting and shipping mistakes. There haven't been a lot of them, but
even one is too many. Keeping all of this straight has proven harder than I
thought it would be. I cannot imagine how Paul S. kept it straight all
those years when he did it all.

Very soon MOTM will surpass Moog in modules shipped. Out of those almost
7000 modules, we have shipped roughly 900. I know how much work it was to
ship that many. For Paul to have shipped what he has boggles the mind.

Lastly, I have wanted a big modular synth for almost 40 years. That dream
has become a reality. And I have one of the best sounding synths on the
planet.

Thanks Paul!

Paul Haneberg

It was indeed a tough year, and yet the modules kept coming. Thanks,
Paul, for continuing your 'little hobby' and allowing us the chance at
a life-long dream. And that's what it's about: fulfilling dreams.

Thanks also to Paul H for fulfilling our dreams a little faster :)
