Summer module push begins tomorrow

Summer module push begins tomorrow

2009-06-28 by Paul Schreiber

I'm back from vacation (went to Key West, FL for some decent fish dinners
and to see Ernest Hemmingway's house) and starting tomorrow, the Summer
Module Push begins. Here is the schedule:

June 29-July 3: assembled module backlog shipping

July 4 (AM): I will post to the list a link to 2 PDF files. One is a list of
outstanding Assembled modules, the other kits in the backlog. These will be
by First name/Last initial. The 2 lists will be what *I* have in my records.
If you disagree, please let me know by July 6th. Also, if you are going to
be gone in July and either want to hold off shipping or ship to another
address, let me know *now*. I know Europe like August holidays, but let's
waiting a few weeks to worry about that :)

July 6 - 11: this is be *100% of the time* kit backlog build and ship. NO
assembled modules, NO MOTM 2.0 order will be shipped. JUST KITS. The '700
panels are in process, these kits will ship *later* in July. I have '190
panels on order, these kits may ship the following week depending on the
panel arrival. MANY of the kits will have new pots and pots w/the "chicklet"
board (replaces blue Bourns panel pots). I will have a generic PDF file/link
posted that explains (with photos) how to replace the Bourns pots with the
new pot/pc board (it's not that hard). The MOTM-800 EG will *still use* the
Bourns pots (because they are pcb mounted).

July 13-18: this will be 30% shipping assembled backlog/MOTM 2.0 and 70% in
R&D of new modules. Also shipping any kits that didn't make it out the door.

Additional kits? - there *may be* a *few* kits unspoken for AFTER everyone
has been shipped (orders cancelled, etc). If so, I will place then in the
cart and send out a notice to the list ~ July 16th. The pricing of these
kits *will increase* due to my cost increases over the last 2 1/2 years
since the kits were last offered for sale (except the current power supply
kits).

I'm anxious to get all of the old orders shipped and have more time to work
on new modules.

This looks like an excellent strategy to me. Thanks for all the hard
work, Paul. Please do keep on keeping us posted.

Any news on this? ;-)

I have not been able to get to the kits yet. I had to 'rob' them for power
cables and long coax wires. I am having a bit of an issue getting the new
wire vendor to respond to my requests for new orders for the wire. It's very
annoying :(

I also had to order more front panels to cover all the kits on order.

So, ~ 3 more weeks I'm afraid. I'll spend some time next week putting the
kits back together I stole parts from. And I want to get the E340 pc boards
designed and sent for prototypes by July 27th. I hope to have renderings of
the final front panel by then as well. I designed the production front panel
in AutoCAD yesterday, Servo is eye-balling it for me. So, things are moving
along a bit for that. I am waiting for a quote for the pots (vertical
mounted) so I can order.

In today's "down economy", why can't I get vendors to send me a quote so I
can buy stuff? Seems very bizarre to me. Strangely, good old Allied
Electronics is the best so far in fast response, quick shipping and best
pricing (beating Mouser like a rented mule).

Thanks for the update, Paul! No rush! ;-)

And just a thought, I know I would be interested, and possibly others too,
in kits that have some parts missing at an appropriate additional discount.
That way you wouldn't have to worry about restoring "robbed" kits which
would save you some time and hassle. And having 'most' of a kit still gets
us SDIYers most of the way there!
