what's the stuff at the top?

i'm surprised you hadn't modularized it more - i.e. smaller pcbs of
say 4 bands each connected with risers, or something like that, so
that people could get more or less bands in. But then again maybe the
difference in cost of the two different approaches wouldn't have been
substantial enough to bother with risers and other stuff?

At the top?

I thought about that, but this has one serious drawback: I'd end up with a
high quantity of channel PCBs, but a much lower quantity of PCBs for the
overall functions. Which means it would be more expensive.

Also, I don't seriously expect anybody to desire more than 20 Bands. Ok, the
EMS 5000 has 22 bands - but I managed to fit *almost* as many into a size
more in the region of an EMS3000. You can always *omit* bands, of course
(and do the nasty re-calculating of all filters), and it would still be less
expensive than using a modularized concept. With that single big PCB, I
expect the PCB to be less expensive than the capacitors, after all! :)
