Unless you (currently.cough) have an all Cwejman system (see
http://www.analoguehaven.com/cwejman/modules/)  you will notice sound
degradation.  The cost of his stuff (made in Sweden) is Serge/Buchla
territory. But yes, it does sound very good.

But Doepfer (the originator of the format) was not about sound quality, he
was about cost (and still is). He still sells as much as everyone else
*combined* and that is like 50 other people (including me). 

The size/format has nothing to do with the sound quality. It does impact the
UI experience and 5U/MU beats Euro like a rented mule, as Granny liked to
say.
