1 motm-101 Noise/Sample & Hold fully assembled module (power cable soldered directly to pcb) - $320

1 black wooden housing case (2 rows of 12 single-width module spaces, fits motm-900 power supply in the back, comes with the mounting brackets a bit scuffed-up on the corners) - $40

As somebody who sees illogical and irrational human behavior everyday of my life, my curiosity has led me to try to understand why it exists everywhere. Take your listing. You're selling used modules for more than they cost new. In one case $31 more. So I'm failing to see the advantage of why somebody would want to pay more for used stuff than for new stuff. I'd sure like to know the thought process behind this strategy. Thanks for any help in my quest to understand the human condition.

I was looking up prices on the Synthtech website which I thought was the only source for the large format stuff. For instance the MOTM-800 is listed at $199 while yours is $230. So there's the $31 example.

As for policing the list, I don't do that, nor give a damn what somebody pays for used gear. I usually just delete all sales posts, which is just about every MOTM list post. But when your post listed a Micro VCO, I went to the MOTM to refresh my memory as to its features, and that's when I saw a price lower than yours. Now you say that even though you bought the modules and I guess used them (one you even had power wires soldered directly to the module), they're still considered brand new and warrant the full new price. In all my decades of buying gear, that's a new one. But hey, that just made the value of all my gear go up a bit.

So the irrationality still exists, and has now increased, because we could get into why people buy modules and kits, rarely use them or don't bother to build them, and then turn right around and sell them. Seems like a futile human endeavor to me, but perhaps buying then selling modules has a thrill to it that I fail to understand.

Yay! Finally a little bit of drama on this otherwise sedate mailing list.

Keep going. I'll turn off my TV.

Yea this list is collecting dust.  It's actually our own fault.  Last I  looked 
there are still quite a few old cats subscribed.  I suggest  anytime someone 
wants to sell their MOTM stuff here, we get something  stirring.  With any luck 
we get sidetracked and an on-topic discussion  evolves from the drama!

Yeah I know, he still cracks me up.  There are quite a few brilliant people 

here, just not much activity.  I guess most goes to Muffs.

As for my synth, I still have 20 or so modules left to build.  Unfortunately I 
deciided to have a kid, so my time in the cave has dwindled.  The bigger issue 
is I wont get that time back until I'm 68 when he graduates high school (if I'm 
lucky).  Yeah, I started this project late.. typical.

Curious what you are cookin up..

Hey Dana,

An edit button makes it sound like I didn't want to say what I wanted to say. If somebody is selling used gear for more than new (or even for the same price), it needs to questioned so people can understand the rational behind it and also to benefit the seller who may wonder why he might not be getting responses to his ad.

And since I never got an answer from an ebay dealer along the same lines, I was still seeking to satisfy my curiosity. The ebay case was really baffling. A dealer has 10 new Behringer FX2000 multi-effects units for sale and so far none had sold. Behringer sets the street price at $130, and that's what you can get it for at Musicians Friend, Guitar Center, Sam Ash, Sweetwater, B&H Audio, Etc. and with free shipping to boot. The ebay dealer is selling them for $260 and an insane $58 shipping charge. To my mind, there isn't a single person within the 7 billion on this planet that would rather pay $318 than $130. So I messaged them and said it sounds like a failed business model, but maybe they could explain the reasoning behind it. I of course got no response. The silent treatment usually means they know they're trying to screw people over and so there is no logical explanation. But it also means they don't understand that it will be unlikely they'll ever
 sell any. Not smart. 

I'm also reminded of somebody on the Alesis Ion/Micron list who was quoted $540 by a tech to replace the bad logic board in his Micron. But as the Micron owner pointed out, he can buy a brand new Micron for only $370. A Micron owner knows how much he paid for his Micron and not a single one would ever pay $540 for a repair of one. Seems like a tech who doesn't understand how money works and is just looking to do no business at all, which means going out of business. Makes no sense.
