Paul's Filter madness

Paul's Filter madness

1999-05-06 by Dave Bradley

Paul,

This has puzzled me for a while.

The web site "News" section mentions 7 filters planned, but I can only think
of 4 (MS-20, Xpander, Moog, triple resonator).

So what are the other 3?

Hi All !

Just guessing :)

ssm2044 clone (of Prophet 5 rev2.2 fame)

Oberheim sem 2-ota clone

Less guessing :

State variable filter (multimode), possibly dual, with fancy control
circuitry .

Wishing :

4 pole lp (24dB), switchable to all pass, simpeler than Xpander
filter .

Diode ladder filter, the Roland System 100 one does not sound like a
Moog ladder .
Or the EMS Synthi one .

Hmm, that makes 9 .

Anyone with experience of a Serge variable slope filter cares to
comment wether this would be desirable or not, and why ? Never used
that .

10

Universal filter/delay/mangler, dsp based, full analogue audio and
cv i/o, possibly in connection with MOAS for storage/steering .
(ducks :) )

11

And it says 7 on the site ? Ah, well ...

Keep 'em oscillating :)

Wouldn't you have to have a stack of 2044s to do this? Myself, I'd rather
have a 2040 based filter. I can't believe I didn't save a single one from
the stack of SSMs I sold to finance my MOTM project!

Now this would be near the top of my list! Love the sound of an Obie
8-voice! Yes! Yes! Please! Pretty Please! I'll buy more than one! Voltage
controlled fading from mode to mode!

I sent Paul a circuit for a very fancy 4 pole state variable with dual Q
controls that can produce a dual resonant peak. Maybe he'll get the time to
take a look at this circuit one of these days.

Hmmm, wouldn't that be d$g*t!l<g>????

Typo . Should have been :

SSM2040 clone ...

An all discrete transistor clone can be seen here :

Later .

Keep 'em oscillating :)

Awesome! We should add this design to the Gimme Gimme List.
