Hunter S. Thompson is just about at the top of my favorite authors list
(short though it is), and this quote is one of the many reasons why. And
its so applicable to so many fields, incuding the recently mentioned
software industry.

paul,
starting with the "hells angels", thru "fear and loathing in las vegas" ( a
virtual handbook for my trip to san francisco in `73 when i got out of high
school ) and on, one of the most interesting writers of that genre.
best,

"The music business is a cruel and shallow money
trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and
pimps run free, and good men die like dogs.
There's also a negative side."

hello all,
having worked in that corridor for over a decade, i can vouch for HST's comment
however, a few inaccuracies:
1 - cruel is an understatement
2 - the shallow money trench is actually alarmingly deep (except when it comes to paying for studio time)
3 - the long plastic hallway has been replaced by a narrower one with less headroom
4 - the thieves & pimps get other people to run free for them
5 - the dogs have also been replaced by, erm rodents
cheers
