I have a little 5 sec mpeg file of this effect showing the scope and hearing
the wave if anyone would like to see what Tomy's idea produces. I added the
audio in a modulation. Very cool. The file is about 200K. I thought maybe
a bit big to post to the list.

Just toying with waveform mangling. With a ramp into both the CV and A
inputs on a 700, and -5 into the B input, I get a waveform whose positive
is ramp and negative is square or pulse. And it is an octave higher. Very
similar to a recent discussion on synth-diy.

Of course, now I want VC of the switch threshold on the 700.

OK, I just tried this. Cool. However, I did not get the octave up thing.
Try this with +5 volts. MUCH more interesting in my opinion.

BTW, my suggestion for mixing another CV with your CV-IN of the 700 works to
control the threshold just as I thought. Now, use the follow inputs to that
mix:

1 - LFO - gives you LFO speed PWM of your saw/pulse wave
2 - EG - gives you a wave that migrates over time.
3 - Audio from another VCO (higher freq) - S**T this is wicked. You get the
audio of the second oscillator appearing on the other wave just at the edge
of the pulse, almost in a carrier like fashion. Sweep it and it is kind of
like hard sync, but not.

Wuss? Wuss? As a Stooge would say, "I oughtta....
OK , read Thomas Hudson's posts for the inspiration for wave mangling.

Great video!!! I wish I could set that as my screen saver at work all day!
Total mad scientist!

You need to put the camera on a tripod and kick the compression up. The
fewer moving elements on the screen, the more the temporal compression in
most codecs will be able to crunch the data without ruining the image too
much.

I've been doing some pre-DVD-R experiments lately, and was able to cram one
hour of video onto a CDR that plays back on my DVD player with quality just
shy of VHS (the audio suffers a little more though).

Well, I had to go low res to keep the file size small. I can make this in a
larger size up to 15 seconds, BUT, the file gets to about 15 MB. Ouch.

errr. I meant about 5 MB

The camera gives me no control of the compression on the video.

No, you would have to use an outside program. I dump stuff from my DV camera
to the PC over 1394 into Adobe Premier, which allows me to compress various
ways. Not worth investing in that stuff unless you plan to do some real
video.
