Power cosumption

2000-08-06 by Paul Schreiber

The power drain is constant on modules *without* LEDs. Obviously, when a LED
is on, the current goes up about 8ma.

Figures quoted in the manual are "worst case", ie the module should never
exceed this.

Let's say I occassionally go over what the PSU can provide. What effect am
I going to see in a module and the overall sound? Will it permanently hurt
anything?

I hope someone smart will answer this, in the meantime.... If you draw too
much current from what the PSU can supply, the fuse will blow. I'd imagine if
you ran the PSU consistently at 99.99999% you'd be operating all the PSU
components at almost 100% which of their ratings.

I remember Gene Stopp on the diy list suggesting that it was well worth it to
run PSUs at about 50% of their rating.

Anybody?

Did you guys follow the math there? The point I wanted to make was the life
and performance of the individual components will be compromised.

Paul--
What about offering the '901 PSU which would handle more modules straight
out of the box?

I always forget, which module is supposed to include a poser distribution
board? What is the ETA on the module? (And yes I know I can buy one
separately.)
Also, I though your were going to make available (and start including)
larger distribution boards for the '900. What is the current status of
this?
