Erm, what gifs? I'm using Outlook on NT4, and though there's now that
annoying eGroups ad at the TOP instead of the bottom, I don't get any gifs.

Yes, but, that's what I'm saying. To me, those ads are not graphics,
they're plain text. Is there a setting in the eGroups profile somewhere...?

Ah-HAH! Yes, I think there is. Go to eGroups.com, and click on "My
eGroups", or whatever it is. Log in, and over in the right hand side
there's a My Profile link. Now on that page, there's an "Edit Profile" link
(guess what we do with that link, kiddies?). On that page, there's a
"Preferences" section-- click on the "Send me plain text email" radio
button.

I think that's what those poor saps with local toll charg-- er, I mean the
Brits-- are looking for. ;)

Actually, we could get rid of the ads entirely if we paid
egroups:

For group owners who do not wish to have ads in messages to their
groups, eGroups continues to offer a "No Advertising Option." For
$4.95 (US) per month (payable in a single annual payment of $59.40),
we will exclude all ads from the messages for your group. For more
info on this option, please see:

Or you talk to you webhosting service about running a mailing
list for you on majordomo or ezmlm. The downside is that you
then have to run you own search engine and take care of the archives
yourself. I run some mailing lists on my servers and it's not
that tricky.
