OT - Yamaha Electone Organs... again

Saw this Yamaha Electone EX-42 on eBay; might bid on it but trucking will
kill me:

As I remember this was as close as you could ever get to a "consumer" GX-1.

I considered bidding on this one as well. I would go truck it home
myself as that setup is over 1/2 ton easily.

Nah, I have too many machines already...where would I *fit* such a
beast!

ivan,
beyond the facts that i certainly don`t have the money to put in a serious
bid on the machine, that my house probably doesn`t have room for something
this large ( small old house, simple but paid for! my synth room is almost
crowded with just the few basic items i have ) and that i don`t play
keyboard/organ/piano,etc., there is something visually compelling about the
machine. i wonder how they sound ?
best,
dave v.

My problem is that I actually have a new place with a large empty area in the
living room, and I'm looking to fill it with something that looks cool and is
useful... thus the Electone! Not sure how they sound; never heard this exact
model, but I remember seeing all the ads and lit for it at the time, and I
think there are some similarities to the CS-60/CS-80 synths and the Electone
combo organs of the time (I used to have one). And it is just so COOL
looking; sort of the Jetsons meets 70's mod.

Yes - CS-80 on steroids. I'm sure you're already aware of these GX-1
links, but just in case:

Well, if this Electone is the "home" version of the GX-1, at least it does by rough
appearance, then you need only listen to Emerson, Lake, & Palmer Works Vol.1 to get
an idea of the sounds. Particularly, "Fanfare for the Common Man" and "Pirates".
Stevie Wonder also used the GX-1 heavily on "Songs in the Key of Life".

Check the AH archives for some discussion on the GX-1. There was a reference to an
article in SOS, available online, that went into great detail about the GX-1 and the
related Electones. I do recall that programming new sounds was not trivial.
However, there were a number of editable parameters available on the presets.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the links. The EX-42 Electone is starting to scare me; I found an
album credit using one that dates to 1971! Earlier than I expected. Was
thinking more along the late 70's. That predates the CS-synths by a number
of years.
