MOTM-700 switching your future! VCO/LFO?

MOTM-700 switching your future! VCO/LFO?

2000-11-07 by thomas white

OK now,

I will be the first to admit my scepticism of the uses of the MOTM-700 VC
Switch and what it could do for me. Well I broke down and ordered one from
Paul last week and just finished assembling it an hour or two ago. Let me
say openly that I am VERY impressed with this module. It is great to help in
the "delayed LFO" quest I mentioned last week and switching between two
different waveforms is awesome. Switching in an extra waveshape 2-seconds or
so late by using a long attack ADSR as the cv input is also very useful.
What will the future hold? One hour and a whole school lesson later I am now
a proud advocate of the VC Switch module!!! I totally understand this in
ways I couldn't by reading the same web page over and over and over...know
what I mean? SO LISTEN!! Get off your duff's and get one if you haven't
already. Plus if you really get bored you can simulate a two way traffic
intersection without the yellow warning lights! HA :~) Or another
immediately fun thing to do is patch the sine out of a LFO into one cv input
and the saw out to the other cv input and adjust the switch settings so the
LED's create a random pattern or motion(Fun during patches that don't use
this module anyway and good for the LED maniacs, you know who you are)

Thomas White

PS. How many of you use an extra VCO as an LFO? I think getting a third VCO
outweighs getting a second LFO, wouldn't you guys say? Opinions appreciated.

Is it possible to mod the 700 for a slow crossfade so as to use it for a
slow fading in like Thomas mentions above? I know the design of the module is
for very fast switching, but I thought it would be nice to be able to slow
down the switching effect (perhaps with a slow/fast toggle switch?) and not
have to use an EG for the same results.

 Just wondering,

Not, just wait for the dual VCA with pan & fade. Will be out by Feb. 1

This sounds interesting.. I wonder how it would sound to pan a couple of
300's around patched with different waveforms.

I've also been very interested in experimenting with out of phase signals.
Would it hurt anything if I wired a cable for this? It would be neat to have
the Pan and Fade module offer out of phase outputs. Maybe 90 and 180 degree
outs? I'd be curious how this would affect the sound. Come to think of it,
this may be approaching what the 410 already does...

Thomas,

Go for the extra LFO first, IMHO. The extra LFO can double for a VCO in a pinch and
has the shape and trigger controls. You can do more wacky modular things with
another VCLFO in my book...
