Welcome to the MOTM family Barry. I'm sure your going to be very happy
with the kits. You really don't need anyone in Seattle if you need help or
advice. There always seems to be a least a few list members who come to
the rescue very quickly when you ask a question. This is a very nice and
helpful list, with a healthy bit of humor thrown in from time to time.

Barry,
Welcome to the list and to the MOTM family. The great thing about this
list is that we are ALL "in your neighborhood" so to speak. I think you
will find the discussion here to be helpful at times. Advice... well...
Just buy more.

Bothell here... I'll volunteer the training room at Mackie Designs in
Woodinville if we want to do a get-together some evening. Warning though; my
schedule is crazed for a while. But glad to help get something going.

A while ago I suggested doing a get-together at the electronic music lab at
WWU in Bellingham. They've got a beautiful Emu modular and a large Arp 2500.
Unfortunately, I cannot find anyone responsible for this facility! Everyone
that I knew back from my days there are gone. I'll still keep digging for
more info.

MOTM in Seattle

2000-11-11 by David Halliday

That would be cool! Running mine through an 8*24 board - love it!

My first job after moving to Seattle from Boston was with TAPCO which Greg
founded. I was working there when they got bought out by JBL, did final
checkout of their power amps ( plug in, avert your face, cross your fingers
and turn on the power switch - they did have some build issues at that
time ) Also, sorry to hear about P.D. - great little guy!

I work for a small software monopoly in Redmond so my time is equally
strange but something in the first part of the new year might be a load of
fun!

Also, do you know about the Electromuse concerts - these happen every other
year or so and pull together a lot of local interesting people.

Glad you like your Mackie; its a fun place to work, even though it is now
HUGE. And yes, sad to see P.D. go...

Anyway, ets try making something happen this winter for all of us MOTM fans!

Hi Barry.

One more in Seattle ringing in... there are a few of us now.

I'm in West Seattle. I haven't talked much here but have enjoyed this
list. I placed my first order the day of the WTO riots. I don't know
that it matters, but whenever there are extraneous chemicals like nerve
gas floating around in the air, I like to take advantage of it because it
makes a far better excuse than "knob-lust." My funds are presently
allocated to other projects for a while now, but I am glad to see there
is a growing army in the area.

Wow! I live in West Seatttle to! I cook at Luna Park Cafe at the ottom of
Avalon Way hill, almost under the West Seattle Bridge. Stop in and say hi
sometime. As to getting everybody together, it sounds good but I work six
days a week so spare time is limited. It's worth trying though.

Does anybody have plans drawn up for cases? I don't really want to use a skb
(wood looks much better)

Barry:-)

Wood Cabinets

2000-11-12 by Dave Hylander

I built my cabinets in wood with the flat rail design. I have the original
Autocad drawing, but it needs to be updated some. The cases I built are
12u (6 2U MOTM panels). When I get a chance I'll update the drawing,
change it to a jpg or something and post it in the Egroup file area.

Envelope follower circuits that I have seen use full wave rectification
with some low pass filtering to reduce ripple. I've done a primitive
EF by plugging the input signal into both X and Y inputs of the
ring modulator and sending this output to a low pass filter.
The output of the low pass filter is roughly the amplitude strength
of the signal. Use this to control a filter cutoff with the original signal
as audio input for the classic autowah. If you also need a gate signal
you can use a 700. The problem being that too little filtering leaves
a ripple, too much gives a sloppy response.

I haven't tried this, but there was a circuit in Electronotes that did
rectification twice, thus raising the frequency by four and
requiring less filtering. Hmm, I've got two 110's here...

Warning: Obvious Oakley content!!

>HOW do I do it with MOTM modules??

OK, not quite with MOTM modules, but if you have a Wavefolder, you can
set it to full wave rectify and use that. But you really do need a
little bit of low pass filtering too, to make it work properly.

For Paul W, if you still have your VCF-1, you can use the signal
processing side to give a CV output that will drive the MOTM VCFs with
no problem. Give me an e-mail and I'll tell you which bit you need to
tap off.

OR... you can wait two weeks and order the new Oakley 'Envelope follower
and Gate Extractor' from me. Basically its an improved version of the
circuit in the VCF-1 filter module.

guess it was still there then.
