Joystick ideas

2000-11-23 by revtor@aol.com

All,
Happy thanksgiving first of all..... We give thanks to Paul for MOTM of
course..

anyway, on the Joystick thread. My only bitch with a panel mounted joystick
is that with our heavy patch cords (this would hold true with any modular for
that matter) I think that the cords and knob tweakings would inevitably move
the stick around a bit. This would be shitty. I would rather go for the
panel with a connector for one or two Joysticks for remote use. we could
then make custom control consoles or just have a joystick(s) or pedal(s)
plugged in and tweak away.
I think that a nicely done wooden control console with two joysticks and a
few cv sources, gate trig buttons etc would be great. You could just patch
'er up then sit back and explore with all the controls. Get that german
company to make you a nice custom panel or maybe use two 3u MOTM blanks from
Paul... yeah that would be great. Sit back and explore... Or hand your
friend one joystick, you take the other and tweak away..
sounds cool indeed..
Hey, if we could decide on a Joystick company and model (www.chproducts.com
looks great), then we could get panels silkscreened in the next run for a
custom control console.. although I guess we don't want to jump the gun and
do all of this before we hear what Paul had on his mind for this module.
Yeah check out ch products' website under industrial products. Joysticks,
switch sticks, trackballs, button strips, all kinds of cool stuff. joysticks
with buttons on top for that real "VideoGame" feel.

The CHProducts stuff looks highly cool, especially the 3-way + button. Hate
to think what that would cost, though.

OK, stupid question here. How does one go about buying said joysticks? Are
they carried by any ofthe electronics distributors? It seemed from the
website they are more aimed at manufacturors. Can a mere mortal buy one or
2? If a bunch of us went in on an order, would that help the price?

Which brings me to my question: once I have the joystick, how do I wire it
up? Please someone help!

Barry S.
P.S. the joystick with three axis sounds very cool, but it is probably
freakishly expensive!
