OT- 606 mods/ nanofarads?

OT- 606 mods/ nanofarads?

2000-12-09 by perpetual@uswest.net

sorry for the OT, but you guys always have the quick answers to tech
questions. i want to mod my 606 and have been looking at the
waterson mods, and then the hyperreal pages, and there's even a post
on there questioning the existence of nF caps. i searched mouser and
digikey for the 68 and 82 nF caps needed but to no avail. what's the
deal on this? has anyone done these mods? are there nF caps or is
this another way of writing some other measurement?

feel free to respond off list.

thanks,
alex

p.s.-got my 440 last night. i now don't need that 606 bass drum mod,
that's for sure...fucker boooooooms....

Unless one of my co-workers slipped me the crack-rock, capacitors are
typically measured in nano-farads and pico-farads. Your 440 has got a few
itself. Well, actually, quite a few.

Now, there might be something special about those particular values... 68
sounds familiar but 82 sounds a little odd...

>Naturally if you are substituting several components for one,
tolerances (error) begins to add up.

I don't think it does since tolerance is specified as a percentage. In
parallel or series cobinations the tolerances should stay the same.

But 68nF and 82nF do exist, although the 82nF is getting harder to find.
Polystyrene types are the best to go for these sort of values, but those
little green mica types are also available in many values, although not
particularly stable.
