OK...how about a Korg MS-20 LPF with a built in LFO (that gets unswitched when you plug in a CV) in 1U panel for $99 kit? And...the Korg PS3100 triple-bandpass filter in a 2U wide for ~$165 kit? (uses 3 rather $$$ dual Vactrols). I could probably have BOTH of these ready in 4-5 weeks. Paul S. (waiting for more MOTM-700 reviews....)

I'm a little less clear on this module. Is this three independent bandpass filters in one module? I use bandpass filters much less often than lowpass, although I do like them. I'm wondering if this means the ladder filter (which I'm anticipating a great deal) will be further delayed. 1) There is no LFO output because there are only 4 jacks in a 1U wide module. In this case: IN, OUT, 1 v/OCT IN, CV [variable] IN. 2) The Korg PS3100 uses 3 seperate bandpass filters. They are swept by a LFO. Each filter can be set to "go positive" or "go negative" on the LFO. There is a master resonance control. The original has all 3 ouputs summed, but if I have room may have seperate outputs. If you have Jean-Michael Jarres' "Oxygene" or "Equinox" this is heard all over the place. The LFO I am thinking about splitting off to a general purpose dual VC LFO. This is a non-CEM chip design. I should know more in about 10 days. Moog ladder still in the works... Paul S.

1) The MS-20 filter LFO is just sort of tossed in as a "freebie". The CV MOD pot can turn it all the way off. BTW: I may just have a 2U wide complete MS-20 filter with switchable HP/LP sections. 2) For best effects, yes the LFOs need to be sync'd. The PS3100 filter has no LFOs itself: the LFOs are in a seperate module and yes they have sync. Hi Paul n All ! Thought i'd chip in here . The charm/goodness of the MS20 filter section is also due to it being a band pass filter, with separatly modulatable freq, res, and mix from the front panel . The module you propose is much more in the skinny Doepfer philosophy . I'd rather see a full scale module, with VC res on both sections, several modulation schemes (see Synthesource, Curtis publ) and built in mixers . This last point may open a debate, but synths without input mixers are a pain in the ass . Just look at any real life Synton modular setup, more mixers than other modules . The ARP Odyssey is so versatile because of its mixers ... etc . If one had VC mixers as well, now that would be something ... (this also goes for other modules) . If any LFO's are included, make them sync-able to external input, good for repeatability of resulting sweeps . If this is not liked, do not use it :) Still in "world beater" thinking mode ;-) Take care . Keep 'em oscillating :) Hugo =

Input mixers (I guess there are 2: audio and CV) are nice. Mainly, it's just a cost & panel space issue. The MS-20 MOTM filter will be a 2U wide HP/LP as in the real unit. Design is underway as we speak. Me, I'm bringing up MOTM VCO pcb #1 !! Paul S.

Those of us out here not yet savvy enough to know what to ask for really appreciate this kind of input and how these great ideas get run right past Paul. Now forgive me for not knowing, but it's time for me to say "thanks" to the person with the vision and commitment to create the [motm] list. Some of this stuff might seem a bit commercial on Synth-diy and I appreciate not feeling limited by the guidelines of that list for this discussion (although I do indeed love that list too).
