[motm] Gotham Blue Cable, Rotary Knobs, Complete Pwr Sply

[motm] Gotham Blue Cable, Rotary Knobs, Complete Pwr Sply

I am getting exhausted looking for stuff, so maybe some of you know where I
can get some items.

(1) I ordered samples of Gotham DGS-1 audio cable from Mouser along time ago.
When it came time for me to order a bunch, they told me they are no longer
carrying it in Blue. Now I'm screwed. Is there another source for Gotham
cable in the US? I would also be interested in other companies that make
colored audio cable. I never could find USA cable on the internet that
somebody once mentioned (I think what Wacky Kavoky uses).

(2) I'm having a little trouble finding the kind of Rotary knobs found on the
Synth.com oscillator which look like those on the Minimoog. That's unless I
want to buy them for $4 each from Synth.com which is a ridiculous price.
There must be another source for them.

(3) It's easy to buy raw power supplies, but is there a place I can buy a
+/-15 and 5 volt power supply in it's own cage that includes the AC outlet,
power switch and fuse?

Thanks for any info relating to the above questions.

I use Canare cable. It is available in red, blue, black, and somewhat
harder
to find, yellow. Very good quality, and yes I can hear a difference when used
with guitar (and no I'm not an audiophile that spends thousands on directional
speaker wire). Very good feel also. I used Canare cable and Neutrik connectors
for my MOTM cables, color coded for length (18" Black, 30" Blue, 42" Red).

The model number is GS-6. Here's a source with a picture:

(watch that line wrap)

Also, if anyone is looking for Neutrik connectors at a good price, I
found them
for $1.99 at http://www.audiogear.com/Neutrk.html

Re: [motm] Gotham Blue Cable / cables in general

while the subject has come up, i would like to share my experience with
canare cable.

i have made dozens of cables for the modular, guitar cords, mic cables,
phono cables, you name it, out of canare starquad and L2T2 (sp?) which is
like a 2 wire version of the quad. yes it is easy to hear a difference
amongst different cables (especially when used as a guitar cord) and i
racked my brain about this then finally figured it out with the help of the
amazing jon risch. much of what's below is the result of our discussions.

his excellent findings are at http://members.nbci.com/Jon_Risch/

what happens is that diff cables have diff capacitance ratings per foot, as
well as other meaningful specs of course. but the capacitance adds up over
distance and creates a virtual capacitor, that when combined with the input
impedance of the desination (amplifier etc) creates the R*C effect we know
as the building block of a filter (HP, LP).

which explained to me why my friend's Monster guitar cable sounded bright,
full & "flat" and and the one i made for him sounded 'toned down a bit' and
the Spectraflex we tried sounded muddy.

so incidentally, there must be better cable out there for HiZ stuff like
modular patch cords. (i am looking into this). the starquad excels as a
balanced mic cable. for HiZ, look for a cable with a lower capactiance/foot
spec to minimize the hi freq loss.

hope this helps.
