Hi Thomas-
I would suggest:
A- MK2 Brass
B- MK2 3 Violins
C- 8 Choir
You could then mix A and B (a classic) when needed. I can't see A and C mixing very well, but B and C would work.
Another good choice for A would be Flute (your choice). These are personal choices, but I am Moody Blues & Genesis biased. But, isn't everyone? ;-)

Hello fellow
Mellotronists,
I'm thinking about
replacing my old tapes on one frame (3 violins, 8 choir and
church organ), 'cause the tapes have been used a lot
and I have sometimes even trouble with sticky tapes (that
won't come back after releasing the key...). OK,
I'am not only thinking about to do so, I am pretty sure
:-)
The idea is to get new
tapes from Martin in England, but I'am not sure which I
should pick: the pitch-correctes 3 violins (as
"the" ultimative Mellotron sound) or something
different like solo violin, or one of the
M300-strings?The choir should be the
original, but instead of the church organ I thought about a
brass sound. Which one would you
suggest?
I have carefully listened
to the sound examples on the website, but some sounded dated
and very short, some are not very "neutral" — a
short melody line is very different to some block chords,
for example. Has someone recorded, lets say, solo violin,
M300 strings or some of the different brass sounds and
uploaded it on youtube or sound cloud? Long notes would be
fine to get an idea how it may work in different musical
situations... That may help me to make a
decision!
Thanks for any help &
suggestions,Thomas
