When I were but a lad, a friend of mine had an Anglia that had had the engine from a larger Ford car, IIRC a 1600E Cortina transplanted into it. My memory is that this was a common mod, as it involved no hacking out of crossmembers or welding, though I may be mixing it up with the popular Fiat 2litre twin cam into a Morris Minor mod (I am not making this up). It would do the ton. I can verify this because I was in the passenger seat once when it did the ton. I have never been so frightened in a car in my life before or since. OK I'll stop now.
