John-
  I had the same thought about surge versus continuous current.  A higher capacity switch would've been better engineering, though.  Maybe this is the reason these switches are notorious for failure.  And, with the mains voltage always present at the switch (if one hasn't modified the primary fuse circuit), these failures can be spectacular and deadly.

Hey Bruce,
I checked out the original switch on my m400 and it is 2A rated and identical to these. May be there a momentory start up surge and the switches are rated for continuous or something and can cope with it? I bought a spare anyway.
