Unless the brushes are nearly gone, I wouldn't replace them. Clean the  
commutator and leave them be, they are well seated. I have yet to have to  
replace any so far. If you remove them, make sure you restore them in their  
exact positions.  
 
Here is are a couple of power supply photos showing how nicely they  clean 
up. Typically I test the old capacitors to see if they will meet specs. I  
have a capacitor tester and if they work well, I leave them. I am more  
concerned with the capacitors on the WME boards or old PMLs and the caps on old  
SMS boards. You might consider replacing that old Bulgin mains socket with a 
 nice IEC socket.

Thanks for your concern, but no money was wasted  =). I rewired the power 
supply for an SMS type controller card, as this pic  shows (before the new 
caps were installed).

Note:  this shot was also taken before the mod to move the fuse before the 
power  switch.

Now, what about those motor brushes?  =)
