I suppose this is how Thomas Tallis might have sounded if he had access to an Eminent, and Elka Rhapsody, a Korg PE2000 and a Freeman String Symphonizer.

I really love this piece - it has a really out-of-sorts harmony near the beginning and never lets up from that angular beginning. The bass works as a counterpoint to the main melody (as opposed to just being an accompaniment) and the tenor and alto lines act almost like a call-and-response.

He got a lot of mileage out of four voices, our Tommy did.

I used to have a Freeman String Synth....I haven't seen one since the 70's or early 80's....quite heavy as I recall........

I worked on quite a few of them during that time period.
As usual when properly maintained/tuned, they were fun to play.
About as portable as a Rhodes too, IE not very.
Me, I got stuck with a Gleeman, a high priced door stop, for sale too.

Beautiful work, Mike! As usual! yes, please add another fan to your list, a long one, I'm sure!
I was fired up to see Tallis's name. If you're a Tallis lover, you may know a gorgeous piece by Ralph Von Williams called "Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis." An amazing, kind of melancholy feel to start, switching easily between minor and major elements. In early '80s, I was hired by Oscar-winner producer Saul Bass to reproduce the first 3 or so mins. of it on keyboards; he wanted to hear if it could be done w/out orchestra. So with M-400 #1485, a Memory-Moog synth, Mini-Moog & a small Roland M-101 synth, I recorded to 8-track tape(!). Sounded pretty decent. In 1983, he wanted "Neptune" from Holst's "The Planets" as part of my score for his film "Quest." HUGE challenge! LOTS of Mellotron; in fact, the main titles were just a MiniMoog bass pulse, with Mellotron solo flute, flanged 3-violins & a bit of 8-choir over it. Very simple... some fun pitch-bending, too, that a flute would never do.

Wow! Just googled this... didn't even know it was on You Tube til now! Saul Bass film "Quest" (in 2 parts). Beautifully shot, but doesn't LOOK so great on computer... it's very jumpy & out of sync, at least on mine, but there's lots of Mellotron in there for ya! Mostly flutes, violins, and occasional choirs. Long sustains were on Mini & MemoryMoog, but the 'Tron's never far away. Pt 2 starts w "Neptune." Enjoy!

  Very nice soundtrack, Berington!  Lovely pitchbends.
  The film is loosely based on the Bradbury short story "Frost and Fire", found in his book "R is for Rocket".  It is one of my favorites, and worth reading.
