The Mellotron Group

He used the A set, it is the B set that is on the first "Pinder" disk .
Pinder used the B- softer, kind of challenging to use. Mellotron Archives
advertises that the 2nd disk will have the A.

When I received my Pinder CD, I extracted all the samples to WAV 
files using the default names. It turned out that the 300 Strings Lo 
were prefixed by the note, Tron model and "Cell" or "Cello", ranging 
from A1 to D#3 (eg: A1.300 Cello). The 300 Strings Hi has "Viol" 
or "Viola" and ranges from E3 to C6. Neither sounds anything like the 
M300A (2 violins) or M300B (solo violin) on my M400.

Martin will know for sure... he knows everything.  The Pinder CD-ROM
"300 STLO" samples (low strings) sound like two cellos to me.

The M300 split sound is a weird one.  It must have been on very early  M300s 
as the only sounds we have ever found on numerous M300s we have renovated  are 
the M300A violins(Woolly's sound)which is two in unison and the M300B violin  
which is a solo violin recording. The earlier split sound with cello, viola 
and  violin is good in principle but not too attractive in practice.  We  now 
offer a blended Cello/Viola/Violin mix which covers all 52 notes of the M300  
and that works well. We also do the same for choirs and saxes.
 
Check out the new BJH album 'Legacy' which is a live recording made in  
London 2006.  Very mellotronic.

The Hi seems to match the M300B tapes in my M400.

Ah. this could explain some things. The M300B tapes that are sold by
Mellotron archives seem to be the upper end of this three way split. The
lower few notes still retain the cello sound. When i played the M300 at
the Mellotron Ranch the string sound didn't seem at all like this version
nor did it sound like the A set either. So maybe Jerry has this later
sound- the true B sound.
