1) What happens if you continue to hold a key down
after  8 seconds? There doesn't seem to be any
mechanism fo releasing the tape from the capstan. Is
this the explanation for the notching of the tapes
over the capstan in #1565?
2) Listening to the 3 violin sounds in M-tron although
the violins start together they don't seem to end
together, is this true of the original tapes?

If you make this a persistent habit, you will create a  clear piece of tape 
and maybe even a broken piece of tape in time.  Most  people avoid doing this.

Each recording is not a precise 8 second take so some  stop early and some go 
on longer.

No, I meant that the violins don't end together on all
notes, that is that at the end of some notes it sounds
like that only one violin is playing, at least on
m-tron.

Replying to myself again, a well known side effect of
Renaissance IPA, any ideas why the tapes are notched
over the capstan on #1565?

PS I think I might have persuaded a local vintage
electrician to take an interest in #1565 so might have
some power going through it soon.

I know! Once I get some power into her do many hours of work on the keyboard and sort out the motor controller, tach head, new springs and God knows what else,

Because the tapes are just touching the capstan and the constant  revolution 
has worn the oxide and tape away.

Actually, it's called A Case of You and it just came out. I can say  
with complete humility and without any hesitation that it is without a  
doubt the finest sixth novel I've ever written, and likely will remain  
that way.

Buy several copies. They make terrific doorstops and they're great for  
killing flies. You can't use the pages for wrapping fish and chips,  
however, unless the portions are very, very small.

The next novel will be called Splice and Pull. It will be pornographic  
in nature.

I use my copies of Rick's books for wheel chocks.
 
All kidding aside, Rick's stuff is fun to read and he can spin a pretty  good 
yarn. You also will sometimes find several not too veiled references to  
folks found haunting this very list. I will be purchasing his new one as soon as  
I get my allowance. One of my favorite parts of Rick's past endeavors is that  
he included pictures that you could color in if you so chose.
