The Mellotron Group

Quite like Can-utility and the coastliners now, the lyrics even seem to make sense although I don't agree with the historical interpretation.

In many ways it seems to me Foxtrot bears the same relation to Nursery Crime that In the Court of the Crimson King does to In the Wake of Posiedon and whichever you heard first will be your favourite.

The list as gone very quiet recently, everybody has got something better to do. I wish I had!

I took the Black Mellotron out for a test drive tonight. Finished the  
restoration at 4 AM this morning. Nothing like a live audience when you want to  
hang your ass in the breeze. Except for having forgotten to tighten the lock  
nuts on the key height limiter and to push the 11 pin connector all the way in  
(talk about a 60 cycle hum!), it worked fine. A spectacular machine if I do say 
 so myself.
 
A couple of minor bugs to work out. There's nothing like baptism by  fire.

Hi Mark, while some of your criticisms may have hit a nerve in the past I
must say that respect that you stick with these classic tunes....they
really do require many listenings. It  took me a while to get used to
Gabriel's voice and Genesis' "quirky" writing style. Seeing them live
helped a great deal. I really disliked the Moody Blues when i first heard
them- I had no idea there was a mellotron involved. Once i started playing
the instrument I gained a new perspective on them
(aided in no small way by a nice girl named Nancy). Any way I apologize
for my lack of patience as you find your way.
Why aren't people writing? I suspect that many of them have been on this
list for awhile and already said everything about the classic mellotron
tunes they have to say. I've been thinking about what is left for such a
blog. I've been listening to Mattias' work and other contemporary users of
the mellotron. I would post some of my more recent things but I don't have
the constitution to bear the criticism of some of the more caustic members
of this group (just being honest,if also whimpy). You might check out
cathedralprogrock or Tom Doncourt on my myspace.

Tom,

A friend turned me on to Cathedral a while back. I don't know how I 
ever missed you guys way back when (although the name sounds 
familiar), but better late than never. As an unashamed fan of many of 
the bands that are so reviled here, I must say I enjoy Cathedral's 
music. I see you have 2 albums (a.k.a. CDs) on cdbaby.com. I don't 
know why I hadn't ordered them yet as I had been planning to since I 
found out about Cathedral, but they are now on their way to me. 
Looking forward to hearing how they sound on my ancient JBL-based 
stereo.

I always see it as people having a bit of fun.  I enjoy sharing my
likes and dislikes with the group.  We have had quite a few members
post home recordings and I don't recall anyone being criticized.

We have bashed ALL of the big prog bands at one time or another.  It
is a bit surprising to see people get angry and defencive when there
Hero is criticized.

Well, with any luck I'll have a new set of recordings for my third album 
available soon, with the usual amounts of Mellotron both overt and 
'cloaked'. Something for you to all laugh at.
