New String Section

New String Section

2008-06-25 by tronbros@aol.com

Boys and Girls,

We have blended some sounds to create a smooth string section with good
tuning and balanced feel. It has Sad Strings at the top, Triple Cello higher
octaves in the middle and Triple Cello lower octaves in the bass. Mike Dickson,
the demon Scot has recorded a six track demo using Vaughan Williams's Tallis
Fantasia score and detuning his tron for the extra low notes. It sounds
stunning and will be up on the Tape Library site very shortly. Comments welcome.

Best,

Martin

Sounds like Ye Olde String Section has some competition! One
question: will it make me play as well as Mike? That's one fine demo!

Beautiful, so nice to have a new string sound available- I had the original \u201cmixed strings\u201d string section but I think I like this better- a little less muddy. I really like the Ralph Vaughn Williams piece- excellently orchestrated by Mr. Dickson.

Wow! I like it, I want it. Maybe on the next frame (somehow). Very good job, Mike.

Hey, we know the 'cello is a recent recording. But, when were the Sad Strings originally recorded? What strings were used?

   Ever curious-

We don't know exactly. There was a reel of tape that had the raw recordings
but they had never been edited due to the amount of mistakes and random
extraneous noises. Now we have digital editing is was possible to rescue the
takes and the Sad Strings were born. They have proved very popular.

This sounds absolutely stunning and I swoon but there is an issue....

Mike: You don't make enough mellotron recordings.

I have a big problem with that.

See what you can do.

Dan

Thanks to all for their kind remarks re the Tallis Fantasia piece.

I'm thinking of recording the entire piece for Mellotron. Stay tuned, as
they say. I'll have to get the entire score though! :-(

Mike,

Fear not! Here's a link to a terrific bargoon:

And here's a full-size score from a company in the UK also at a good price:

Damn!
Where am I going to get £48,000 to buy six Mellotrons?

Nice sounds. it should tell the VST mob where to get off.

Dave.

You know, with a good score and parts to work from, this could easily be performed with 6 mellotrons and 6 good players...

Hmm...

Mike, do you know how to use Sibelius or some such program?

Cheers,

Rick

Mosy definitely not played on #1565 which has been upgraded from dead to sick upgraded
from dead to sick

PS If the link doesn't work and you are feeling masochistic it's in the file section in the Mark folder and it's called Corelli.

#1565 in all her flutey glory is playing in the Little Sonata file.
