keyboard adjustment

2009-02-06 by ceccles_ca

I just used Norm's maintenance guide to make a few adjustments.
http://www.normleete.co.uk/?page_id=28
I had two sticky keys, one wobbler, two squealers and an occasional
whiner.

After following the pad and roller adjustment directions, I still had
one squealer. A 1/4 turn less pressure on the pad fixed it.

On mine most of the keys need less pressure than the manual advises especially on the newer tape rack. Unfortunately the new and old racks need fairly different adjustments and I think I probably need to adjust the angles on the pressure pads which I find a real bind, does anybody know an easy way of doing it?

The best I have come up with is to remove the best and worst sounding pressure pad from the tape rack and then alter the angle of the pad of the worst to match the best.

However the old rack is sounding particularly good at the moment and I have got over my M300 string obession and learned to love the 3 violins. I might have a go at it in the winter ( hot summer days here now ) or then again working on my motto of "if it ain't broke dont't fix it" I might just leave that rack in until the tapes break.

Mark,

To sort this out takes a lot of time, but the end result is worth it. I will
be happy to advise you off list.
