Apologies is this turns up twice, just posted a long and boring post which seems to have disappeared into cyberspace. The link is to one of the few pieces I haven't already posted here. #1565 with old tapes, Mark II 3 violins.

The notches on the tapes over the capstan. What would cause that? I guess if the tapes were in continuous contact with the capstan they would wear through like that. --- In newmellotrongroup@yahoogroups.com, Mark Pring <markpringnz@...> wrote:

If the tapes were in contact why wouldn't they wear evenly? And why would some be notched and not others? My guess is that that it's due to a combination of concave rollers and the previous owner persistently holding the keys down for too long. Oh and by the way congrats on Canada's win in the ice hockey, I wouldn't have thought there would be anybody sober there by now. --- In newmellotrongroup@yahoogroups.com, "ClayE" <ecclesreinson@...> wrote:

That's because we didn't get bronze medals. If we had, we would have been gracious in defeat. When we win silver, we can be petulant. Frank In a message dated 3/1/2010 10:54:04 A.M. I shouldn't single out just the Americans. When Alex Bilodeau won the gold medal for the moguls ski, the camera showed the top three skiers with arms wrapped around each other; Bilodeau and Bryon Wilson (USA - Bronze) were smiling and waving, while Dale Begg-Smith (Australia - Silver)had the sourest expression ever, caught on national television. --- In newmellotrongroup@yahoogroups.com, "ClayE" <ecclesreinson@...> wrote:

Don't worry about it. If the game had gone the other way, you would have seen some full blown temper tantrums from our guys. --- In newmellotrongroup@yahoogroups.com, fdoddy@... wrote:

I love it when Rick gives us the inside Olympic perspective that no one else has. In a message dated 3/1/2010 1:51:21 P.M. Yes, and our Prime Minister would have shut down Parliament for another 2 months so that we could all "recalibrate" our Canadian identities.2010-03-02 by lsf5275@aol.com
