And you're absolutely correct about it being treated poorly by soundtracks of the past. Same thing could have happened to the Ondes Martinot, except that some major composers wrote for it. I had the same Theremin, but the limited edition. It's the most difficult instrument to play because you can't move the trunk of your body in the slightest or it will affect the pitch. There is some really good science fiction music using theremin. The soundtrack to Day the Earth Stood Still by Bernard Hermann is one of the best. He also uses an early Yamaha organ, and a new innovation- the Fender electric bass.
