OldSynths

i recently acquired a yamaha g10 midi guitar.   what i didn't know when 
i bought the thing is that it uses a proprietary cable.  what i'd like 
to find is the schematics to see how hard it would be to engineer a 
cable that would hook directly into a midi port.   failing that, i'll 
have to find a cable and the matching g10c box for this thing to be 
useful to me.

anyone have any suggestions on where i might find these things?  yamaha 
doesn't appear to acknowledge ever having created the g10/g10c and i 
haven't been able to google anything useful.

anyone with information they would care to share would be greatly 
appreciated!

i just checked my midi guitar bookmarks and all the g10 links are no 
longer active.
try putting the question up on the midiguitar yahoo group list as well 
as analogue heaven and looper's delight. lots's of guitar synthesists 
there, especially looper's delight.
jeez, it's hard to find much on this thing. i've been looking for awhile

i have an electronic musician dec.88 issue with a craig anderton review. 
he does mention being "paranoid about any cable that cannot be 
duplicated from parts available at radio shack" and only describes it as 
a multi conductor cord.
how many pins and what kind of configuration on the g10 port? i don't 
doubt you could likely make a cord, but i don't think you could plug 
directly into a midi module. you'll have to track down a g10c. here's a 
couple links to craig anderton's sss forum. they're old links so i don't 
know how active the forum is these days.

thanks -- i'll work thru these tomorrow.

don't know how many pins there are in the cable but it's way more than 
the number found in a midi cable (3, right?).  the cable for the g10 is 
round like a midi cable and about the same size -- without going back 
out into the studio, i'd say there was somewhere between 7 and 10 pins. 

i'll log onto yahoo tomorrow and post messages in the groups that you 
suggested.

configuration is because you may be able to find a substitute. for 
example the six pin cable required for rolands pg programmers is the 
same cable that was used in the old c-64 systems. i've found several of 
these over the years at thrift stores.

we've been having network issues here which has kept me from answering 
the original question -- though, i'm beginning to lose hope the i can do 
anything useful with the unit --

anyway, it is a 15-pin cable (round connector, 3 rows of 4 pins each and 
a 'bottom' row of 3 pins).    hope this helps -- i haven't had time to 
get to those groups you recommended but it's on my list o' things to do 
as soon as they stop pestering me around here.....

the 15-pin cable looks near impossible to find, but hey, look what i 
found! hooda thawt?
