New to the list. I owned a Polysix in 1982(?) that I loved. Foolishly sold in 86. I really want that old sound and adjusting multiple parameters on the fly. Browsed around eBay - were is the best place to find a good used one? I have heard the batteries leak... What a decent price for one these days? Thanks, stephen

Yes, the batteries had a notion to leak. Buy one with a leaky battery and you'll get it cheaper, but then you'll have to fix it. Often, this isn't as bad as it sounds, because we have the "pro" right here on the list. When I say 'pro', I really mean "crow". THe old pro, crow. I bought my P6 for 200 cash. I don't know if this is a good price. I don't care really either! (so there!) It had problems in the Patch Memory department. Several things didn't work right, so I only had about 1/4 the memory slots (8 instead of 32 I think?) Decided to replace the battery for the hell of it. I found that it was already replaced (with the same model as the original battery). Several traces on the board were fixed, but they missed a few of them. I put in a Li-Ion battery, and fixed the other traces that the last guy missed and now it works much much better. I still don't have -1 suboctave, but I have -2 suboctave, and this is what I normally use anyhow so it's no big deal (although I'd like the option) I dunno where you'd get one... watch ebay, watch "daddy's junky music" if you're in the US (especially in the NE) but their prices can be a bit "off". I found mine in the local used music gear store in phoenix. I was debating between the p6 and an akai (ax-73 I think???? something with mad sliders on it) good luck! -ben

Welcome, Stephen! I owned a Polysix in 1984 that I loved. Foolishly sold in '88. (Digital toys and sampling were the rage, remember?) However I bought another one in 1999 that just happened to be the very same one I had sold 11 years earlier with the same patches I had created! I got mine at a local music store for $299 and it was still in great condition and I did have the battery replaced so maybe I paid a little too much as I didn't know to check for the battery until after I bought it. A good price for a clean unit would be around $250 but check to make sure the battery hasn't leaked or exploded over the board inside. I also had mine MIDIed recently, got the Kenton kit (wanted the Iotech but couldn't budget the extra for it) but am happy. Cost about $350 US. Then add the cost of having it installed unless you do it yourself. I would check local shops, pawn shops (heard of some great deals but you have to check out the synths to make sure they are okay), Usenet (rec.music.makers.synth, etc.), and maybe keep and eye at eBay. I was so lucky to come across the same one I had sold. It was like the Universe telling me my Polysix and I were suppose to be together because if had come a day earlier it wasn't in the store yet and someone had planned to come buy it so it might not have been there the day after I went. - Ells

You can get a Polysix from "Analogue Modular Systems" in the web. Just type the name in the yahoo explorer. The batteries need replacement before they leak. Thanos, from Greece.
