my new polysix

Hey guys, I just got a Polysix a few weeks back. I have lusted after one for years, but the prices are up there and not too many turn up for sale. I have a poly800 and love the sounds, but really miss the knobs of an older machine. I have Moog Slayer-modded the poly800 so that I can at least VCF knob twiddle. I have the original flyer and catalog for the Polysix / Monopoly and have always kept an eye out: Sure enough, I see one that is broken on sale in as is condition. Original owner who has to let it go because of too many projects to fix this one. I drive a 650km round trip to buy it. Sure enough, only one octave works and the battery is starting to leak. I do get the original data tape and manuals with it and blast home. I have an old ARP Omni that I have re-capped and restored, so I am thinking, "great, I just bought another old maintenance nightmare with potentially a bad key assigner or other IC. A few nights of cleaning the keying contacts with isapropanol and completing the 2025 coin cell old crow mod for the varta leaker and.... IT ALL WORKS! And boy does it ever sound nice. I love the brassy patches. And I just finished making myself a master patch list using the P6 editor from this site. Cutting and pasting patches together on the PC is a cinch. Just wish my Poly800 had such a program made for it! The Gary Numan patch is bang on, the brass sounds like Vangelis or Manfred Mann. What a great machine! Great group guys! Peace, John
