Sequential circuits samplers

I can't remember, but wasn't there soemthing about haveing to have a midi
cable with all five wires actually wired for it to work? (whereas some midi
cables only get wired with the 3 conductors that count?

Sorry if this is off the mark, it's all i could think of?
