Re: [prophet2000]random white noise: Winecountry respose

This is FYI. I got a respose from Wine country . Good trouble shooting
techniques here. I might try it soon, but for now, I will live with it.

Hi Tim,

All items avaialble for the Prophet 2000 are published on our web site.

There are 4 x I-624 ICs in the Prophet 2000... each servicing 2 voices per
IC. There are also 8 CEM3379 VCF ICs.. eaching servicing one voice.

Assuming that the noise problem you describe is associated with a failure in
either of these ICs.. you will need to confirm which IC is the source of the
problem. Since they are scoketed.. you can swap them around in various
locations, then take note if the problem has moved to a new voice after each
chip swap is completed..

you can use the LEFT Output and RIGHT output as your guide.. determine which
side.. left or right, exhibits the problem initially.. then start the chip
swap.. one chip at a time.. then check to see if the problem switched sides
after each swap.. if you can force the problem to switch sides.. then you
can
isolate the problem component, and replace it accordingly.. again, this
assumes that the source of the problem lies with a faulty I-624 (or a faulty
CEM3379).

Hi

I recently acquired a P2000. However there might be a problem with one of
the voice chips (according to the Yahoo user grp) Every few notes, I
experience a white noise sound instead of the sample.

I was wondering how much you would charge for this repair.?

I am local to you, in Santa Clara, CA (Homestead and San Thomas)

BTW: some of you might know Pat McDowell, who used to be a SC employee. He
said he helped design the front layout of the P2000 and also was involved
with the documentation. He actually GAVE me his P2000 ! (just this weekend)
I gave him an Atari system in return. I am into the Atari-MIDI scene. (check
out my site if you want) I have also found that a lot of the Atari sound
apps support the P2000, (GenWave, Sound Designer, Turbosynth)

Anyway, hope you can give me a price quote.
