Restore prophet2000 Belgium

Hi Piotr,

I am located in Southern Germany and need help getting the disk drive to work on my P2000.

Perhaps we can share info on Prophet users / Repairers in Europe as a whole ?

When the machine is fully functional, I'd very much like to swap samples, too ...

John.

A bit expensive, but I didn't want to bother with disks.
Each disk is stored as a file on the memory card and you choose a disk-file on the emulator and the Prophet will see it as if you changed disk.
Of course, if you have disks you need to read them on a computer and store them to the SD Card before you can use them in the Floppy emulator.

I never use the Prophet at all actually, but I'll keep it anyway, for that time when I'll feel like using it ;)

I think any serviceguy should be able to service a Prophet 2000/2, but the main problem is probably getting rare parts, which usually have to be ordered from winecountrysequential in the US, for a lot of money... or possibly eBay...

There are cheaper (chinese) alternatives for Floppy Disk Drive replacement via USB stick:

Does anyone have any experience of these ?

I am getting ND (no disk) error.

After opening the case, I found that the rubber drive band from the motor to the disk spindle had rotted and snapped and was confident that I had discovered the cause.

I replaced the entire disk drive with a spare, but unfortunately I still get the ND message and I am a bit stumped.

Any suggestions ?

I would like to move to the SD card or USB disk replacement, but want to be certain that there is no further fault before investing time and money in installing something like that and transferring my sample collection.

Hello
You can't use a PC floppy drive directly in the P2000 you can modify the floppy to be in Drive select 0 mode ( PC floppy are in drive select 1 mode ) You have to find the jumper or to desolder DS1 jumper and solder DS0 jumper in the floppy drive.
The other solution is to make a flat cable with a twist ( I have done that in my P2000 but I have to verify the exact wire I have twist ).
Regards
Paul

Thanks for the tip.
There are no jumpers at all on the replacement drive I tried, so any details about the cable modification required would be very useful.

You have to twist cable number 10,11,12. Red is number 1 on the flat cable.
The best solution is to find an old floppy flat cable from a PC to test if you can make the twist and if it work.
I have successfully open the connector and close then again on a new very long flat cable but you have to be careful.
Remember to put tape on the HD hole if you have HD floppy.
Let me know if it works.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
